10 Bible Verses for Fathers
One Father’s Day card reads, “Father’s Day comes in June because about a month after Mother’s Day, someone went, “Wait a minute . . . ”
It’s easy for us to chuckle when dads don’t get quite as much fanfare as moms do on Mother’s Day, but we all know that fathers have as much of an influence in the lives of their children as mothers do. Though dads may not receive bouquets of flowers, or dinner out, they still deserve honor this Sunday and, well, every day.
Our Father’s Day podcast will be coming later this month, but before that, we wanted to share with you this list of 10 Bible Verses that dads may find especially meaningful.
If you would like to print these out, we’ve made a PDF available here.
1. In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge. [Proverbs 14:26 ESV]
2. The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him. [Proverbs 23:24 ESV]
3. The righteous who walks in his integrity– blessed are his children after him! [Proverbs 20:7 ESV]
4. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. [Ephesians 6:4 ESV]
5. Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.[Proverbs 22:6 ESV]
6. Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate. [Psalms 127:3-5 ESV]
7. A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous. [Proverbs 13:22 ESV]
8. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and upon your gates. [Deuteronomy 6:6-9]
9. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. [1 Corinthians 3:11 ESV]
10. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. [Psalm 103:13 ESV]
